Wheat...Quiet holiday-week activity prevailed across the west coast
wheat markets this week, with all prices tracking unchanged from a week
ago. Export bid structures showed all three classes of wheat bid flat
over at least the next 60 days.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a typical holiday-week
pace of export loadings last week, coming in at 11 million bushels and
about half the prior week's total. Year-to-date shipments stand at 553
million bushels, which is 22% ahead of a year ago. Hard red winter was
the top shipper with 4.4 million bushels, followed by white wheat with
3.2 million and hard red spring at 2.6 million. Pacific Northwest port
activity showed exporters moved 8 million bushels of wheat, that went
mostly to Bangladesh, along with nearly 16 million bushels of corn.
Average Prices...For the period of June 1 through late December of
this year, Portland white wheat prices averaged $6.05 per bushel versus
$5.96 over the same period a year ago. Hard red winter 11.5% protein
prices averaged $5.84 versus $6.31 and dark northern spring 14% protein
has seen an average of $6.55 versus $6.71 last year.
